PhD in Economics and Quantitative Methods - Welcome

The PhD program in Economics and Quantitative Methods aims to provide PhD students with the theoretical and analytical instruments that allow them to understand economics facts, propose theoretical models, and conduct empirical analysis at the frontier of economic research. Such instruments are acquired through the attendance of advanced courses, workshops, summer/winter school, and seminars organized by the PhD scientific board, by the Department, and by other academic institutions and research centers. Moreover, visiting periods at foreign departments contribute to complete students training in specific fields of interest.

Admission Criteria:

Admission exams are held in July for admission in November of the same year. Prospective students have to apply by following the guidelines published on the University of Genova's website: https://unige.it/dottorati-di-ricerca. The number of students admitted to the programme is restricted and specified every year on the Call for Applications. For the 40th cycle beginning in November 2024, we will admit at most 5 new students with scholarships fully sponsored by the University of Genova, and at most 3 new students, each working on a different project jointly sponsored by the Regione Liguria and a co-financing company.

Scholarships:

Admitted students will receive a tax-free scholarship whose amount is also indicated in the Call for Applications.  A 50% increment in the amount of the scholarship is paid when students are formally invited to spend a period visiting a university or an accredited institution outside Italy.
